The Downliner - Part 7
The Downliner - part 7
How to use The Downliner effectively Part 7

So in Chapter 6 we were talking about different types of traffic and the misinformation that comes with each.

Now this isn't to say there are less viable as a source of traffic, just to say the information regarding their effectiveness is clouded behind an ulterior motive and that could be anything from being the owner of several of the sites listed to just plain incompetence.

So to reiterate Safelists are still a good form of advertising however the information that has been presented about them is dubious at best. The numbers are massaged to artificially enhance its popularity.

Whats next? Ah yes,

Banner and Text Ad exchanges

Many people like to boast about how they get more clicks to banners and text ads when using these types of exchanges but honestly, what would you expect from a site that only gives you credit to click banners and text ads? Clearly you are going to receive more clicks as opposed to placing your banner on a Traffic Exchange or Safelist and why? Because you don't get credit for clicking them in those exchanges! Again it's a case of massaging the numbers to make the specialized exchanges win.

So yes, banner and text exchanges are good if you want lots of clicks to your banners and text ads but don't really expect too much of a conversion because at the end of the day the incentive is to click those ads in return for credit.

Autosurfs

This type of traffic is banned on The Downliner for obvious reasons but for those not in the know let me explain why.

Autosurfs are exchanges where, in order to earn credit, you only have to have the site open. You don't even need to click an image (captcha) to prove you are human to view it and you can just leave it running in a tab whilst it earns you credit. In the case of one particular autosurf, Hitleap requires you to download a piece of software that basically shows the sites in a window outside of your regular browser and with this all you have to do is minimize the program to continue to earn credit.

Let's state the obvious here. How many people, in reality, do you think are actually viewing your webpage in an autosurf? And by view I mean having a pair of human eyes seeing what your opportunity requires and clicking?

And that's the problem...

There's not doubt you can generate thousands of views to your programs using autosurfs but in terms of action theres very little aside from bot signups which are very cleverly set up on some exchanges to again give the illusion of result! Very sneaky but very effective at maintaining membership :P

So what are autosurfs good for and why do they exist in the first place?

Autosurfs exist because of one thing. Alexa. Every site has an alexa rating and many owners believe a good alexa rating means more buisness however this is simply not the case.

Alexa rates a site based on amount of traffic however it does not take into consideration the quality of the sources so you could send a million hits to your site per day from a number of autoexchanges and bam your alexa rating soars. Fortunately Alexa does have other statistics that can give someone a clearer picture of a sites popularity. The Audience Geography.

Below are two comparisons of The Downliners Sources of Traffic and Hitleap Autoexchange

                                                          The Downliner                                                                                   Hitleap

What can you spot in the two images? Well first of all the majority of Traffic to The Downliner Originates from the United States where Hitleaps primary source is India. Now taking into account that Hitleap very cleverly prevents its alexa rating from looking terrible in terms of Demographics by forcing every member to use its own software instead of actually viewing the sites through a browser, the reality is still the majority of viewers, members, promotors are based in India. This is why the number is only 9%. If they actually had the members viewing the sites through their link that percentage would be much greater.

So Autosurfs are good for artifically inflating your alexa rank but not much else and I personally would not recommend they be used for anything other than your own domains and certainly not to promote domains you don't own!

And the reason they are banned on The Downliner? Well seeing as we provide you stats from your viewers such as IP Address, Domain Referred from and time spent on site for each and every viewer your receive we assume you really want visitors and conversions as opposed to automated, low converting traffic! After all you are paying for it!

So to close Autosurfs are good for providing an artificial rating to your sites however if you are going to do this then make sure the sources are also in the countries you are interested in marketing to otherwise someone else may just go to http://quickclicker.com/marketing/lethe.newsletter.php?pos=track&id=2f5d2434fb453aaf1e810f2797840a9d&sid=628aa33b9903572d000428901b357673&redu=lethehttpalexa.com and check out where your traffic is really coming from!

And with that I think it's a good place to end this Chapter so stay tuned for Part 8 where we will discuss the remaining types of traffic and the reality behind each.

In the meantime......

Your mission should you choose to accept it:
